I was going to put a disclaimer here to tell you that this is a somewhat personal post, but I got thinking… all my posts are somewhat personal because I share bits and pieces of my experiences in each one. And this one is no different.
Stretching Into a New Energy
You see, the name of this site was intended to be “Blog Your Voice.” The idea originally was that I was going to teach women, especially heart-centered, spiritual entrepreneur-type women how to blog so that their voice and their story got told.
Because I truly believe that every person has a story to tell, and a duty to tell it. Because I believe that someone out there needs to hear your story, to know that they are not alone, to know that there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
You can be that someone holding the light, but you have to be willing to share your story to do it, and you need a platform to share it from. That would be your blog.
So, back to the story here…
As I said, the domain for “blog your voice” wasn’t available, but “your message amplified” was. So after some brainstorming, because I really didn’t like the name at first but it was really the only thing available that remotely fit, I decided to register YourMessageAmplified.com.
And I tried to make it fit. Really I did. But the way it sits right now, it doesn’t fit. And without some serious changes, it’s never going to fit. Because the truth is, no matter how I try to be a “real business person,” I’m too creative and weird to ever fit that mold. And the people I most want to work with know it. To them the “woo-woo” of the spiritual world is common-place, and when someone comes to my site and on first glance says “something feels off here,” well, I know it’s time to pull my head out of the sand and deal with it.
One of the individual challenges in Kelly McCausey’s Stretch Yourself Challenge is to freshen up your blog. From there I started thinking about how I could freshen up the site. The first thing I decided on was a new logo. And I heard this little voice in my head…
“It starts as a whisper and turns into a roar…”
Aha! The logo should be a heart … a heart amplified… a heart that starts as a whisper, and gets louder and grows stronger and more confident the more your message is amplified.
I was listening to my friend Derral Eves on a webinar the other day and he was sharing his passion for teaching people about YouTube and video marketing, and you could hear the emotion, the passion in his voice.
And I thought, YES! That’s what I want to come through in my writing, in my story telling, in my consulting. I want people to know how passionate I am about blogging and sharing your message.
There’s a quote from Dr. Wayne Dyer that says “Don’t die with the music still inside you.” I’d add to that, “Don’t die with your story still inside you.”
Start with a whisper if you have to, but don’t keep your story to yourself.
As for me, I’m learning to practice what I preach.
I’m still learning how to roar. I’m still growing in confidence and building my strength, and I haven’t really told my own story yet except in bits and pieces. But it’s getting there.
I’ve come a long way from the quiet, broken, woman who had to change her name because she couldn’t say it without wanting to be sick.
The bottom line is this… Learning to amplify your message isn’t just about marketing. It’s about being wholly and completely you. Because here’s what I’ve learned along the way…
You absolutely must be yourself. If the face you’re presenting to the world isn’t real, then no matter how great you think you’re doing, you’ll never get that perfect fit you’re looking for. Sooner or later you’re going to get tired of adjusting it, and when you do, that’s when the people you are meant to be a light for will see you.
That’s when the fun begins!
My fun begins right now. And I am so glad you are here to share it with me!
Oh, and that little line that started it all … Well, it turned into a full-blown poem…
