My name is Ruth Bowers, and I am happy to welcome you to YourMessageAmplified.com!
I guess since you’re here, you probably want to know a little bit about me. I have to warn you, I’m not really very good at talking about myself. That comes from a combination of being naturally introverted and shy, and from years of being told to shut up because no one liked me or cared what I had to say anyways.
Yep… I had a verbally and emotionally abusive husband. Actually I had two of them. Seems I was a bit of a slow learner.
By the time the second one was done with me, I was lower than I’d ever been. I used to say I felt lower than worm-slime, but that was an insult to the worm. My self-esteem, which was always pretty fragile at the best of times, was non-existent. I let myself go physically and mentally and the result was I had a heart attack at age 40.
If you’ve been here before, you’ll no doubt know me as Helena Bowers. Because after my heart attack I really couldn’t stand to say my own name. But in the fall of 2014, it came to me that it was time to reclaim my name and my own sense of self again. So here I am, still a work in progress and still putting the pieces back together. I am slowly but surely re-creating myself into the woman I know I am meant to be. I have been down as low as can possibly go, and I know that the only place left to go is up (or maybe a little sideways).
I’ve worn a lot of different hats in my life – daughter, sister, mother, wife, to name a few. These days I’m more about defining myself in ways that appeal to me for myself instead of my relationships with other people. I don’t think enough women do that and I’m very pleased to be able to use my skills as a creative consultant and support person to help other soulpreneurs from behind the scenes so that they can share their unique gifts and talents with the world.
So how do I define myself?
When I’m not helping local and online business owners with their website and graphic needs, I can usually be found blogging and creating newsletters on personal development topics, or wandering the local trails with camera in hand, or working out at the local gym. In 2015, I’m tossing my hat into the author ring as well with plans for a series of non-fiction books and a series of novels as well. As far as labels go, I am an entrepreneur, website developer, graphic designer, WordPress expert, historian, author, blogger, photographer, musician, and aqua-fit junkie. I’m also a distributor for Young Living Essential Oils. That’s a mouthful! And why I need a personal blog to go along with this business site. :)
How Can I Help You?
My life experiences up to this point have turned me into almost a hermit in a lot of ways. It wasn’t until the summer of 2008 when I got divorced, and my son got me golf lessons for Mother’s Day that something actually shifted inside me and I decided that maybe I’d like to rejoin the land of the living.
As an introvert it’s not easy to put yourself out there at the best of times; as an introvert who had hidden away from the world for several years, it was terrifying. I’m getting better at that, and choose to see it as an adventure in finding my own voice, and a new direction after years of hiding myself. In the last year or so, I’ve done a public workshop on social media, been a guest on Stress Relief for Successful Women. You can actually download a copy of my interview when you sign up for my mailing list (in the sidebar).
I have been building websites for myself and others since 1997, when I created my first really ugly site on Angelfire complete with sparkly backgrounds and flashing graphics. From there I learned that people really were using the internet for more than just chatting and making personal pages, and what has really become a lifelong interest in internet marketing was born.
My passion for creating websites and graphics fills a piece of me that my love of writing and words doesn’t quite reach. I’m not even sure I have the words to describe the kick I get when a client’s initial request of “I don’t know what I want, but something pretty” turns into “That’s it! I love it!”
My goal for 2015 is to move into more teaching and training, because to me, the only thing better than having someone love the work I do for them is seeing them succeed at doing it themselves. So many women I know have a fear of technology and a pre-determined notion they just can’t do it, and I love being able to show them they can!
I love being able to use my skills and knowledge to help others live their dreams. I am a firm believer in the saying that if you help enough people get what they want, you will get what you want as well.
One of the things I have learned is that when you come through adversity, you have an obligation to share your experiences because there might be someone out there who needs to know that they are not alone. When you’re in that dark place you need to know that there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
I am dedicated to helping you tell your story and share your experiences too, because you never know whose light at the end of the tunnel you will be.
If my experiences can help even one person know that it is possible to survive, rebuild yourself, and thrive again, then I will consider my life a success.
